Oeke fan e Wigeri - (star)

Oeke: was imported from Holland in 2001. She is a daughter of Hearke, a preferent stallion. She is also a first premie star mare.  We are attempting an embryo transplant from Oeke this year and have selected the beautiful and talented stallion, Teade. Keep this in mind for next year. Even though Oeke’s sire, Hearke, is no longer with us on this earth, the most recent stallion index ranks him as number 21 on the listing of the best breeding stallions!

Hearke was born in Idaard (Friesland) on April 7, 1973. His breeder was M. Brouwer. When he was approved as a breeding stallion, Jan Bangma purchased Hearke. Hearke stood at stud at Leppehorne, the stable of Sybren Bangma. Hearke is famous partly because of the large number of his offspring that also became approved breeding stallions. Included among the approved stallions sired by Hearke are: Rients, 270; Reitse, 272; Tys, 274; Gerlof, 294; Dirk, 298; Ids, 300; Ouke, 313; Warn, 335; and Atse, 342 (maybe we forgot one). It is easy to see, from this record, why the world was so impressed with Hearke.

At the time when Hearke stood at stud, breeding was done by live cover. Hearke covered four mares a day, at 6:00 am, 12:00 noon; 6:00 pm; and the last at midnight. He was a very busy boy, since he was such a very popular stallion.

In addition to his fame in passing on his great attributes to his offspring, Hearke was a great performance horse. Hearke was the Grand Champion of the approved Friesian Stallions eight time with the sjees (a type of drive vehicle something like a gig used in Holland); he was once a Grand Champion in the pairs division with his mate Germen, also hitched to the sjees. When he was eleven years old, he was named the Grand Champion Stallion at the Stallion keuring in Holland. This magnificent stallion died at the age of 21 years on September 19, 1994, apparently due to colic. This great stallion was deeply mourned in Holland, and the Bangma family received many flowers and cards at the time of Hearke’s death.

Arlena - (star)

Arlena was imported from Holland in 2001. She is a daughter of Oege, a preferent stallion. The stallion Oege was also sired be a preferent stallion, Wessel. Oege, is currently ranked 16 in the stallion index, attesting to the quality of this stallion. Arlena has six generations of star mares on her dam’s side. Her dam is Watske, star, out of Hearke preferent, and again, Hearke is sired by the preferent stallion Mark. Arlena has two offspring at WinterSpring Farm: Denzyl of WinterSpring and Lucyanne of WinterSpring. She is being bred to Ironspring Farm’s Teade for a 2005 foal. This stunning mare has an amazing ability to communicate, which is absolutely comical. She is very intelligent.
